WHAT ARE OUR GOALS?

The goals of The Georgia Food Bank, Inc. are to put an end to hunger in the Southeast. There is an ongoing battle to end famine throughout the world, but we have a serious problem right here at home. Many people in our own neighborhoods are living below the poverty level set by the federal government. Poverty stricken individuals come in all shapes and form all types of occupations. Usually when poverty and low-income families are mentioned, the homeless sleeping on the street come to mind, but these are not the only people living in poverty! School teachers, police officers, the little old lady living on your street corner could all be living in poverty. Poverty comes in all shapes and from all occupations and life styles.

HUNGER IS A CONDITION OF POVERTY!

Families in our communities are living below the poverty line. This puts a tremendous stress on their household budget, some having to decide between feeding their children, or paying rent, or feeding their children or paying bills for heating to keep their children warm. According to the U.S. Census Bureau 34.5 million Americans are living in poverty. This is unacceptable in the land of milk and honey. We must all do our part in helping these families in our own neighborhoods. This is where The Georgia Food Bank, Inc. comes into play. Because of our direct and hands-on approach to dealing with these economically disadvantaged families we are able to get food and medicine directly to the families in need. We do not have to send our donations to another agency like other food banks but can distribute food directly through our food pantry program.
